OUR PHILOSOPHY
Little Stars Daycare is dedicated to the provision of a safe, educational and fun environment to meet the developmental needs of all the children within our care. We have created and exceptional program to develop the whole child through an academic play-based curriculum. We provide child-initiated and teacher-supported experiences to foster children's natural curiosity, exploration, play and inquiry. We will always strive to ensure a nurturing, non-threatening environment where children can comfortably express their feelings by verbalizing or through play.
Our philosophy incorporates the principles of Early Childhood Education in that;

Imaginary Play Gross Motor
Outdoor Play Science
Potty Training
Toddlers 15 to 30 months
Our Strawberry Room is licensed for
15 toddlers. We understand that this
is one of the most important stages in child's development as this is when they are first starting to learn how to share, communicate, form relationships and function in a group setting. Our teachers provide a safe, fun and stimulating environment for toddlers to learn, develop social skills and build their confidence. By using a wide variety activities, games and educational toys toddlers are constantly stimulated and encouraged to explore. Weather permitting, toddlers spend one hour in the morning and afternoon in the outside play areas where they can further develop their motor skills.
Senior Pre-School 3.5 to 5 years
Our Blueberry Room is licensed for 24 pre-schoolers. Our main focus at this stage is to prepare the children for elementary school. With our teacher/child ratio of no more than 8 to 1, we are able to provide more one-on-one time than is currently available in the regular school system. Our program is designed to teach our pre-schoolers to count, write letters and do simple mathematics. We constantly evaluate each child's individual needs to ensure that every opportunity for improvement is provided. At Little Stars we believe that learning in a positive, fun and stimulating environment is the key to success
Junior Pre-School 2.5 to 3.5 years
Our Banana Room is licensed for 15 pre-schoolers. At this stage our teachers introduce more structure and social skills by using a wide variety of educational games and activities. Jr. pre-schoolers continue to learn about letters, numbers, colours, shapes and patterns. They are encouraged to improve their verbal communication skills and to begin potty training. Weather permitting, jr. pre-schoolers spend one hour in the morning and afternoon in the outside play areas when they can continue to develop their motor skills and are introduced to sports and more structured games.

Meals
At Little Stars all food is prepared on the premises. This allows us the opportunity to provide a wider selection of foods for children with specific tastes or dietary needs and variations in portion size. A hot nutritional lunch is provided every day. We also provide mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks.
Menus are developed four weeks in advance and are posted in the hallway by the front entrance for parents to review.
Little Stars is a participant in the Peel Public Health FOODCHECK PEEL program. Our most recent inspection resulted in a Green (Pass) rating which confirms that our food preparation facility and procedures meet all the standards of the Ontario Food Premises Regulations. The sign showing our inspection rating is displayed on the wall by the front entrance.
Management.
Our facility is managed by Victoria Nicol. She has been working at Little Stars for 4 years.
Victoria started as a Pre-school teacher in 2011 and quickly moved to management position. During the 4 years at Little Stars, Victoria has become the face of our facility and key member of the Little Stars family.
Partnership With Parents
Little Stars highly encourages parent participation. Parents are always welcome to visit or call the facility at any time. We conduct progress reviews on an annual basis where parents have the opportunity to discuss their child’s development. Input from parents is encouraged and always welcomed.
Little Stars has found that play date visits involving parents prior to a child’s formal entry into the program can greatly assist in minimizing any apprehension for both the child and the parents. Play dates allow the child to become more comfortable with a new environment by experiencing and participating in program activities with similarly aged children. Parents also become more comfortable as they become familiar with our staff, our facility and the program their child will be involved in.
When a child first begins, parents are encouraged to call the centre and speak directly with the child’s teacher to find out how they are doing.

We know how challenging potty training can often be for some children. We believe that by having teachers and parents working together, this process can be fun and successful. Little Stars staff are committed to working with each child when the time is right and, to make potty training that much easier. Our Blueberry Room (jr. pre-schoolers) was designed and built to include the children’s washroom, equipped with child sized bathroom fixtures, within the classroom itself for ease of access
